Lessons are open to beginner and intermediate level students, ages 6 through adult. Lessons begin with an informal “interview” time for teacher and student to get to know each other. There will be no extra charge for this first lesson. The teaching schedule has been coordinated, as closely as possible, with the school schedules in the Lima area. Lessons begin after Labor Day in September, and run through the week before Christmas. After the new year, lessons resume the first full week of January and conclude in May. “Sizzlin’ Summer Studies” will run June -August for those who wish to continue lessons through the summer. As the specific dates get closer, more details and information will be sent out. The individual lesson time will be 30 minutes.

Practice Requirements

Home practice time requirements will be determined by the teacher based on age and level of the student. The weekly lesson will be taught as long as student has practiced at least four days per week at the suggested length of time. If student has not reached this minimum, they will be sent home, and that lesson cannot be made up. Any exceptions will be considered on a case-by-case basis.

Tuition

Payment is TBD for a 30 minute lesson. There are two payment options available: MONTHLY – a bill will be sent out at the beginning of each month, with payment due by the 15th of the month. QUARTERLY – a bill will be sent out every three months with payment due by the end of the first month. LATE FEE: A $10.00 late fee will be added if payment is not received by the date indicated on the bill, and you have not communicated that payment will be late.

Lesson Rescheduling

To reschedule a missed lesson, a Swap Sheet will be provided with the names and phone numbers of those students who desire to be included. Please use this option first to try and switch lesson times with another student, and then inform the teacher of the change. If no options are available, then call the teacher and we will set up another time for that week.

Missed Lesson Credits

Payment for a missed lesson will only be credited to the next month in the following situations: 1. Teacher is notified at beginning of the week of a change in plans. 2. If student is ill, teacher is notified before noon of the lesson day, or as soon as possible before the scheduled lesson time. 3. If teacher has to cancel a lesson. (In this case, I will try to abide by the same notification process.)

School Cancellations

1. Lessons will not be held over major holidays (Thanksgiving, Christmas, Easter) when all schools are closed. 2. Lessons will be canceled due to weather when a Level 1 emergency, or higher, is given for the Columbus area. Any other weather situations will be evaluated each day.

Supplies and Other Expenses

Each student is required to purchase a 3-ring binder for weekly assignments and other papers. Student should bring their assignment notebook, a sharpened pencil, and all current music to each lesson. Student is responsible for all extra expenses such as music books, entrance fees for any competitions, and recital fees. These expenses are not included in the monthly payment, but will be indicated on the bill when they apply.

Terminating Lessons

I reserve the right, as teacher and business owner, to terminate a student’s lessons for continual lack of practice, if payments are consistently late, frequent absences, or general poor behavior.

Performance Opportunities

In May, 2001, Angelic Sounds held its first Spring Recital. Each student is expected, though not required, to participate in this annual performance as the culmination of the year's work. On odd-numbered years the recital is more formal with formal dress and mostly classical performances. On even-numbered years, the recital is casual and often with all songs centering on a fun theme. Group Lessons are held several times a year to help students get used to performing in front of others, as well as learning about proper audience behavior. As part of their musical study, each student is strongly encouraged to participate in other competitive performances. These are: OMEA Solo Contest; National Guild Auditions; and MTNA Studio Festival. More information on these events can be found on the "Events" page.
